Department of General Surgery - Obstetrics and Gynecology  of 199 Hospital has recently successfully operated on a patient with uterine fibroid of great size.

Patient N.P.T.T.N, 48 years old, had symptoms of dull pain in the lower abdomen. Checking on the patient's history, it turned out that the disease was persisting for a long time, the patient often had dull pain in the lower abdomen. Uterine fibroid 70x50 mm in size was detected by accident during the ultrasound scan.

Successful surgery to remove uterine fibroid more than 1kg in weight

It was decided to perform a total hysterectomy for the patient by the medical council of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Specialist Level II Nguyen Huu Binh, Obstetrician and Gynecology specialist, who was directly involved in the surgery, said that fibroid surgery is a complicated process that requires high level of expertise. Furthermore, the patient was overweight, with enhanced myometrial vascularity, which could cause bleeding easily, that is why the surgery was extremely difficult. After nearly 1,5 hour of surgery, the fibroid with a stem and 15x15cm base was successfully removed.

Dr. Binh also added that the patient had suffered from the disease for a long time but had not screened for early treatment, which was the main cause for tumor growing in size. And if uterine fibroid had not been treated timely, it could have caused various obstetric complications such as menorrhagia, bleeding, the risk of miscarriage if pregnant, and even cancer.
